Michigan law prohibits an employer from terminating, disciplining, threatening or taking adverse actions against an employee because that employee received or responded to a jury summons. An employee may not be required or requested to use annual, vacation, personal, or sick leave for time spent responding to a jury summons, time spent participating in the jury selection process, or time spent actually serving on a jury.
However, the law does not require your employer to pay you wages while you are on jury duty. Many employees are paid wages while on jury duty because it is a negotiated contract provision. Please check with your supervisor to answer this question.
Jury Service is compensated by the Court (District, Circuit or Probate) in which you are selected for. Please contact them for current compensation rates.

The 1st step is to determine whether you are qualified to serve - if you have been a resident of Michigan for 12 months and a resident of Antrim, Grand Traverse or Leelanau County for 6 months and you meet all other eligibility requirements, you may be selected by the jury commissioners to serve jury duty.Jury Questionnaires
Please note that United States Army, Air Force or Navy personnel or their spouses are not considered residents of Michigan by reason of being stationed here. You must have declared Michigan as your state of residency in the "SC" block on your Military Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) for at least 1 year to be eligible to serve jury duty. -

Friend of the Court: Child Support
10-
If it has been 3 years or more since the most recent child support order, you may request, in writing, a child support review by the Friend of the Court. The Friend of the Court will conduct an investigation and make a recommendation for an order based upon the Michigan Child Support Formula. If it has been less than 3 years, you will need to file a motion for modification of support. Forms and instructions are available at the Friend of the Court office or onFriend of the Court: Child Support

Yes. Parenting time and support are separate orders of the Court as explained inFriend of the Court: Child Support
-
No. If your order requires you to pay through the Friend of the Court or MiSDU, you must do so. Support is paid through the Friend of the Court in order that an official record of payments is maintained. However, a 1-time only basis, the Friend of the Court will extend credit to your account if your co-parent agrees to the credit, in writing.Friend of the Court: Child Support
-
Only if your court order allows it - the Friend of the Court will not approve such an arrangement. However, you may seek an order from the court which allows you to "opt out" of the Friend of the Court office. Forms and instructions are available at the Friend of the Court office or on theFriend of the Court: Child Support

In Michigan, child support continues past the age of 18 if certain conditions are met. Support may continue up to age 19.5 if the child is "regularly attending high school on a full-time basis with a reasonable expectation of completing sufficient credits to graduate from high school while residing on a full-time basis with the payee of support or at an institution."Friend of the Court: Child Support
This means that current child support charges will continue until the child reaches the age of 18 or graduates from high school, whichever occurs later, not to exceed 19.5 years of age. -
No. The Friend of the Court must send any child support payments made while you are on public assistance to the State of Michigan.Friend of the Court: Child Support

No. The law does not give anyone the authority to specify how child support payments are to be spent.Friend of the Court: Child Support

If you need a temporary change in your parenting time schedule, contact your co-parent to discuss making other arrangements. If you need to make a permanent change you can see if you and your co-parent can agree to the change. Write down the agreed changes, and both parents should sign and date the letter. Submit the agreement to the Friend of the Court office. A stipulated order will then be prepared and submitted to the court for approval. An agreement between parties is not enforceable without a court order.Friend of the Court: Custody / Parenting Time
If you and your co-parent are unable to reach an agreement, you may submit a written request to the Friend of the Court for a review of your parenting time provisions. Please indicate how circumstances have changed since your last order, and the reasons for requesting a review.
As a last resort, you can file a motion with the court for a change in the order on your own, or contact an attorney to assist you. -
They can decide at age 18. Children do not decide custody, parents and/or the court decide custody. The reasonable preference of the child is one of several factors the court considers in reaching a custody decision.Friend of the Court: Custody / Parenting Time

You may contact the Friend of the Court and request enforcement - requests for enforcement must be in writing. Or you may contact your attorney. If you have reason to believe the other parent does not intend to return the child, you may contact the police or the prosecuting attorney and request that parental kidnapping charges be filed.Friend of the Court: Custody / Parenting Time

Report your concerns to the Children's Protective Services unit or the Department of Human Services. You may also wish to provide your Friend of the Court Office with a written copy of your concerns so that they may be made a part of your file. Emergency Volunteers
4-
One role of local public health is to respond to emergencies that can pose a threat to the health of the community. Public health emergencies may include large outbreaks of a contagious disease like influenza, bioterrorism incidents like a chemical attack, and natural disasters like tornadoes. In the event of a large emergency, local public health may not have enough staff to respond alone. Services that volunteers can provide are crucial to the successful response to an emergency.Emergency Volunteers
-
Experience has shown that during an emergency or crisis, hundreds of people want to volunteer their assistance. Advanced registration allows public health to utilize volunteers more quickly and effectively. It also allows volunteers to obtain training ahead of an emergency.Emergency Volunteers
-
Depending on the emergency, volunteers will be needed to perform a variety of different jobs. Some require little training, and others require an active healthcare professional license. Jobs may range from clerical, (like handing out and assisting with forms), data entry, security, to professional tasks for nurses, (vaccinator) physicians, (health screening) or mental health workers (counseling).Emergency Volunteers
-
Emergency Volunteers
- How do I register?
- Registering does not obligate you to volunteer during an emergency. You may sign up at the Michigan Volunteer Registry. This program allows volunteers to be listed in a state database to be contacted in the event of an emergency. Through this registry, volunteers may also have the opportunity to participate in training and emergency preparedness exercises. For more information visit the Michigan Volunteer Registry website.

Michigan Tax Tribunal
6-
The tax tribunal is a quasi-judicial administrative agency located in the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. The Tribunal has jurisdiction over assessment disputes relative to both property and non-property matters. To resolve a dispute, the Tribunal conducts hearings and renders written decisions based on the evidence properly submitted by all parties. The tax tribunal is divided into 2 sections: Entire Tribunal and Small Claims Division.Michigan Tax Tribunal
-
The Entire Tribunal utilizes a formal hearing process to resolve the more complicated appeals filed with the Tribunal. There is formal record maintained of all Entire Tribunal hearings and the parties are typically represented by attorneys. The majority of these hearings are conducted over a 5-day period. The hearings are all held in the Tribunal’s Lansing office where the presiding judge is either a Tribunal member or an administrative law judge.Michigan Tax Tribunal
-
Small claim hearings utilize an informal process where the parties typically represent themselves, and the hearings last 30 minutes in length. The hearings are held in the county in which the property is located where the presiding judge is a hearing referee, a Tribunal member, or an administrative judge.Michigan Tax Tribunal
-
It is required to have protested to the Board of Review to protect your rights for future appeal to the Michigan Tax Tribunal for properties classified as Agricultural and Residential. Appeals must be filed to the Tribunal by July 31 of the tax year involved.Michigan Tax Tribunal

It is imperative to be able to answer the questions, “What do you think the property is worth?” and “What are you basing your opinion on?”March Board of Review
All assessments are to be based on the sales of similar properties. You may hire a professional appraiser, or you can look at sales in your neighborhood and compare them to your home. Per state law, the sale price of a property cannot be the sole determining factor of the assessment of that property. Neither the assessor nor the Board of Review can raise or lower a property assessment based solely on its sale price. Mortgage appraisals also may not show True Cash Value. -
Every person who protests before the board shall be notified in writing no later than the 1st Monday in June of the board's action on the protest. The decision of the board is binding for the current assessment year only. Immunization Waiver Information
10-
Michigan has one of the highest waiver rates in the country. Some counties in Michigan have waiver rates as high as 20.7%. This means that more than 20% of the students in those counties haven’t gotten all their vaccines. Some school buildings have even higher waiver rates. This leaves communities vulnerable to diseases such as measles, chickenpox, and pertussis (whooping cough). Immunizations are one of the most effective ways to protect children from harmful diseases and even death.Immunization Waiver Information

This form must be completed and signed by a physician before it can be submitted to the school or childcare center. -
For more information, please visit theImmunization Waiver Information

Parents/guardians will need to submit documentation of one of these items to the school or childcare center a completed, certified State of Michigan Nonmedical Immunization Waiver form, or a physician signed State of Michigan Medical Contraindication form, or a complete immunization record.Immunization Waiver Information
If a completed immunization record or a certified waiver form are not turned in, then the student can be excluded from school or childcare based on the public health code, unless the student is in a dose waiting (provisional) period. Dose waiting period means that the student still needs an immunization for school/childcare, but is not recommended to receive that dose at that time.
Waiver forms that are altered in any way (such as information on the form is crossed out) cannot be accepted by the schools/child cares.

Public Act 123 Tax Information

Yes, property owners who had delinquent taxes under the old law could also lose their property, but they had more time to pay and more second chances. Under the new law, if your taxes are delinquent for 2 years, that's it. You've lost the property.Public Act 123 Tax Information
-
A delinquent tax is a tax that has been forwarded to the County Treasurer for collection on March 1 of the year after it was due. For example, taxes that are billed by your City or Township Treasurer in 2013 were turned over as delinquent to the County Treasurer on March 1, 2014.Public Act 123 Tax Information
-
Public Act 123 Tax Information
No. Neither, the local treasurer, County Treasurer, nor State treasurer has authority to waive interest or penalties. Michigan law holds the taxpayer responsible to know that taxes are paid on time.
-
The County Treasurer adds a 4% administration fee and interest of 1% per month. After 1 year, the property is forfeited to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer. For example, the 2013 taxes that were still unpaid as of March 1, 2014 was forwarded to the County treasurer for collection. 2013 taxes that remained unpaid as of March 1, 2015 were forfeited.Public Act 123 Tax Information

Public Act 123 Tax Information
No, forfeiture is not foreclosure. If your property is in forfeiture, you still have a year before it will be foreclosed. However, the interest and fees will be higher. When a property is forfeited, the interest rate goes from 1% per month to 1.5% per month, back to the date the taxes became delinquent. A $175 title search fee is added along with other notice fees. We will record a Certificate of Forfeiture with the Grand Traverse County Register of Deeds, so it will come up on any title searches.
-
Public Act 123 Tax Information
Even if you can't pay your taxes all at once, you can still make partial payments. Each payment will reduce the amount of interest that is added each month. The final payment must be made prior to the foreclosure date. Make your check or money order payable to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer. To ensure your payment is applied to your parcel, please write your parcel number on your check or money order along with the year you intend to pay. The mailing address is:

Worm Composting
8-
The ratio of worms to space is 1:4. 1/4 pound of worms will need 1 cubic foot of space (1 foot high by 1 foot wide x 1 foot long). About 1/2 pound of worms will need 2 cubic feet of space (2 feet long by 1 foot high by 1 foot wide). A large surface area allows adequate oxygenated air to reach the worms. Drill some holes in the bottom and sides of the container to allow for additional air circulation and water drainage. You may need to cover the bin to ensure that it is dark enough for the worms.Worm Composting
-
Tear 2.5 pounds of newspaper into strips for each cubic foot of bin space. Tearing the paper lengthwise is easier than tearing it widthwise. A 2 cubic foot bin will need approximately 5 pounds of shredded newspaper. You will need to moisten the paper with water. Worms are between 75% - 90% water. The surface of a worm must be moist for the worm to respire (to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen). To ensure that you have added enough water, shred the paper into a sink or other container and then add enough water so the paper is covered. Lift the paper out of the water, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the wet newspaper into your bin.Worm Composting
-
Add 1 or 2 handfuls of soil or compost to the moistened bedding to provide grit for the worms' gizzards. Like birds, worms use gizzards for grinding up food. Remember, worms don't have teeth! The soil or compost, along with a few handfuls of leaves, strengthens the bin ecosystem by providing other organisms found in a compost food web. Now you may bury your worm food and add your worms.Worm Composting
-
Many bait stores sell red worms. You can sometimes find worms in rich moist soil around your house or compost pile, but be sure to get red worms.Worm Composting
-
Provide the worms with food, adequate moisture and air. Check the bin while you are adding food to see that the bedding has not become too matted or is drying out. Daily care is unnecessary. You may feed your worms once a day or once a week, whatever fits best into your schedule. Bury the food by creating a pocket in the bedding and covering it. Bury worm food in a new location each time. Worms will freeze, so keep your bin's temperature above 50 degrees.Worm Composting
-
It will take about 6 weeks before you see noticeable changes in your bin. Once the newspaper has been replaced by castings, the concentration of castings will begin to become toxic to the worms. This process generally takes 2 - 4 months. At this point you will need to remove the castings and separate out the worms before preparing new bedding.Worm Composting
-
- To start seedlings - As a top dressing for indoor or outdoor plants - Mixed in with potting soil - Use as mulchWorm Composting
-
- Dump out the contents of your bin and form many small piles. The worms will go to the center of each pile to hide from the light. Prepare the bin with fresh bedding. Put the worms back into the bin. Gather up the worm-free compost to use as desired. - Push your compost and worms over to one side of the box. Fill the other side of the box with fresh bedding and food. Begin burying your food scraps only on the new side. In their search for food, the worms will migrate over to the side with the new bedding. In a few weeks, you can take out the worm-free compost. - Dump 2/3 of your bin, worms and all, into your garden. Add fresh bedding and food to the bin for the remaining worms.Worm Composting

Making new things from recycled ones takes less money, less energy, and less of the Earth’s resources. Because less energy is used, factories don’t release as much pollution either.RecycleSmart Kids

Everyone can recycle. You can recycle at home and at school. Your parents and other adults can recycle at work, and so can the companies they work for.RecycleSmart Kids

Reuse means just what it sounds like: using something again rather than throwing it out. That usually means finding a new use, such as making a jelly jar into a drinking glass.RecycleSmart Kids
Reuse conserves the energy and raw materials needed to make new products, and doing so saves energy and reduces the amount of pollution factories release into the air and water. By recycling or reusing plastic, metal, or glass items, you can reduce the need to mine, transport, and manufacture natural resources to make new products. -
The best way to reduce the amount of trash you generate is to be a careful shopper. Don’t buy more than you need, especially if the product can go bad over time. As a consumer, you have purchasing power. As more and more people buy products that are reusable, refillable, or concentrated, manufacturers will take notice and produce more of these earth-friendly products.RecycleSmart Kids
