On October 2nd, 2020 the Michigan Supreme Court issued an opinion that Governor Whitmer lacked statutory authority to issue executive orders under two legislative acts after April 30th. These two acts-the Emergency Management Act and Emergency Powers of the Governor Act-were the basis for, among other orders, Executive Order 2020-154. Executive Order 2020-154 ("EO 154"} is titled "Alternative Means to Conduct Government Business During the Covid-19 Pandemic" and suspended "strict compliance with Section 3 of the" Open Meetings Act by suspending any "physical place or physical-presence" requirements to permit remote public meetings.
Due to the issued opinion by the Michigan Supreme Court the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners regular meetings will be held in person until further notice. Technology will be in place for in person public comment in the lower level of the Governmental Center. The option to participate remotely is still available at this time.
