[ARCHIVED] Applications open for the Natural Education Reserve Advisory Committee Committee

The Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve (NER) is a vibrant 505-acre property that follows and celebrates the Boardman River. The area was dedicated in 1976 as a space for nature exploration and education and remains one of the most popular parks in the Grand Traverse County system.  The NER features more than five miles of trails and two river access points to launch and land a canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard.

The NER Advisory Committee is a twelve member group comprised of Grand Traverse County, City of Traverse City, Garfield Township, Grand Traverse Conservation District, and citizen members.  The group is advisory in nature and provides recommendations to Grand Traverse County in operating the park for the benefit of all.

The committee is seeking applications from interested individuals wishing to contribute to their community through preservation and appropriate public use of this property. Citizen members are appointed by the Grand Traverse Parks and Recreation Commission for a three year term. The Committee is currently seeking two appointments:

  • Remaining term ending in September 2026
  • Full term to begin October 2024 and expire in September 2027
