About

Ashlea Walter was elected to the District 3 seat in November 2022, moving over after serving on the City of Traverse City Commission for several years. She has lived in the Central Neighborhood of Traverse City with her family since 2009. Commissioner Walter grew up in the Detroit area, graduated from Kalamazoo College and has lived in northern Michigan since 1999.

She works in marketing and communications and has been involved in public service for many years having served on countless boards and commissions. With her work on the Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners, she serves the following appointed roles: Area on Aging, Commission on Aging, and the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency.

She plans to continue to work on our area’s most urgent regional issues: housing, mental health, childcare, and our climate crisis. Outside of her elected and appointed service, she loves to spend time with her family, enjoy our amazing environment through swimming, hiking, and biking, and pursue her passion for the arts through theatre and her own painting practice.
