Referee Hagen joined the 13^th Circuit Court on April 8, 2019. Originally from Indiana, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Wabash College and his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Isabella County’s then Chief Judge Paul H. Chamberlain hired him as his law clerk and he performed that duty for five years. Also during that time, he worked as a part-time Juvenile Referee and District Court Magistrate. Eventually, Isabella County hired him as the full-time Juvenile Referee where he presided over delinquency, abuse and neglect, and FOC hearings. He served as the court representative for the CMH Baby Court and the Teen Drug Treatment Court.

Referee Hagen remained very involved with the community. He was on the Board of Directors for Girls on the Run – Central Michigan, Listening Ear Crisis Center, and the John H. Goodrow Fund. He was also a member of the Isabella County Bar Association and the Rotary Club of Mt. Pleasant. Referee Hagen is a member of the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association and he volunteers with the Father Fred Foundation and the State Theatre.
