Renovation!

Please be advised, due to renovations to the Government Center 1st floor, this office is moving to the 2nd floor within the same building. This temporary move starts January 19th, and we look forward to servicing you at the temporary location starting January 21-22. Be further advised our phone capabilities may be diminished and you are invited to try a call again later or visit us if faced with a continued busy signal. Mission Statement

The mission of the Grand Traverse County Register of Deeds Office is to provide timely secure and accurate recording services that are delivered in a prompt and courteous manner.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Register of Deeds is the official recording office for all land records in Grand Traverse County, including deeds, mortgages, land contracts, liens and other documents pertaining to real estate.

Public Records

All records in our office are available to the public. Our computer image index dates back to 1966. Additional documents back to May of 1946 are available by Liber and Page. Further imaging and back indexing are on-going. 

Deed Information

Individuals interested in changing the ownership of properties listed on their deed should consider one of the following options:

  • Contact an Attorney familiar with Real Property Law in the State of Michigan.
  • Contact a local title company.
  • Acquire and complete a blank deed to have recorded at the Register of Deeds Office. Blank deeds found online may or may not conform to recording requirements.

The Register of Deeds Office does not supply blank deeds or offer advice on the preparation of deeds.
