Assumed Business Names
Transacting Business in Michigan
A sole proprietor and a general partnership conducting or transacting business in this state under a name other than the real name of the person(s) must file a Certificate of Assumed Name or Certificate of Co-Partnership.
Application Process
You may come into our office and complete the entire process in person. You also have the option to submit your application for an Assumed Name using our online application; Once completed, come to our office with your Driver's License or valid ID and we will complete the process with you.
Certificates of Assumed Name
The Certificate of Assumed Name form must be filed in the county where the business is located and may also be filed in each county where you are conducting or transacting business.
If the business address is not in Grand Traverse County, a copy of the Certificate of Assumed Name that has been filed in the county where the business address is located must be provided at the time of filing.
Certificates of Co-Partnership
Certificate of Co-Partnership must only be filed in the county where the business address is located.
Similar Names
We cannot accept assumed names that are similar to another name already on file.
