Volunteer Services

The Probate and Family Court Volunteer Services division dates back to 1970 when Judge Kenneth Mackness was appointed to the bench to serve Grand Traverse County.  Judge Mackness saw a need for volunteer assistance to enhance the efforts of the Court staff.  In 1998, the Juvenile Division of what was Probate Court was aligned with the Family Division of Circuit Court.  Volunteer Services has continued to support both Probate and Family Court through volunteerism.

Various volunteer programs have come and gone, changing with the needs of the community.  Our volunteers commit hundreds of hours each year providing valuable services to the youth and vulnerable adults of our community.  Volunteers provide an immeasurable service to the Court, the families served, and a substantial savings to the tax-paying public.
