Probation/Parole Services
Since 1913, probation has been the primary form of supervision for anyone convicted of a felony in Michigan. In general, the statutory maximum term of probation is 5 years for felonies and lifetime probation is authorized for some drug offenses. However, within the statutory maximum, the length of probation is determined by the Judge at the time of sentencing.Parole is the supervision for anyone sentenced to prison by the local court upon their return to the community. The terms and length of parole vary, being determined and ultimately governed by the State Parole Board and administered by the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole staff.
