Immunizations

The Grand Traverse County Health Department (GTCHD) offers immunizations to people of all ages, from infants to older adults. We also provide Tuberculin (TB) Skin Tests. The appointment will be with a Registered Nurse who specializes in immunizations. During the appointment, the nurse will review your child's immunization history and offer recommended vaccines. The nurse can answer questions about the vaccines and the diseases they protect against.

2025/2026 Respiratory Disease Season:

The GTCHD is currently offering:

  • Influenza vaccines for everyone six months of age and older, as well as a high-dose vaccine for seniors.
  • RSV and Pneumococcal vaccines for adults.
  • RSV products to protect both pregnant women and infants during RSV season.
  • COVID vaccine for everyone six months of age and older.

Childhood Immunizations:

It's better to prevent a disease than to have your child become ill with one. Vaccines prevent common diseases that could seriously harm infants and children. Vaccination is a safe and effective way to keep your family healthy.

Adult Immunizations:

Adult immunization needs depend on age, lifestyle, health conditions, life events, and travel plans.

GTCHD carries the following vaccines:

  • Chickenpox (Varicella)
  • COVID-19
  • Haemophilus Influenza Type B (Hib)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Influenza (Flu)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
  • Meningococcal
  • MPox
  • Pneumococcal
  • Polio
  • Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
  • Rotavirus
  • Shingles
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough (Pertussis)

Immunizations don't have to be expensive, as we can bill your insurance. If you don't have insurance or your insurance doesn't cover immunizations, we have special programs such as the Vaccines for Children Program and the Michigan Adult Vaccine Program that may be available to you for low-cost or no-cost vaccines.

Immunization Waiver Education

Michigan Public Health Law requires all infants and children to have certain vaccinations or a valid waiver before entering public or private schools or licensed childcare settings. These requirements exist to prevent the spread of disease and to prevent injury or death in the community.

Michigan parents/guardians who opt not to fully vaccinate their children before they enter school or childcare must receive education and request a waiver from a local public health department.

Follow the process below to request an immunization waiver from the GTCHD.

  1. Complete GTCHD's Online Immunization Waiver Education.
  2. Schedule an in-person appointment at GTCHD by calling 231-995-6111.
    • You will not be able to schedule an appointment until the virtual education is complete.
  3. At the in-person appointment, sign the immunization waiver form.
    • Remember, the immunization waiver process is not complete until the waiver is signed in person.
    • Once the waiver is signed, a copy is automatically shared with your child's school.
