Grand Traverse County recently accepted applications from local organizations for funding made possible through the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act, which generates revenue from taxes and fees on adult-use marihuana facilities in Grand Traverse County. The County Board of Commissioners has adopted a comprehensive Marihuana Revenue Funds Spending Plan to guide the intended distribution of $500,000 in funds. Applications were open to eligible applicants including nonprofits, religious organizations, schools and school districts, colleges and universities, as well as economic development organizations and corporations from September 2 through October 1, 2025.
During the open application window, 81 applications were received, totaling over $4.8 million in requests. As outlined in the Spending Plan, awards will range from $25,000 to $100,000, and priority will be given to organizations that have clearly demonstrated how their projects advance the County’s strategic goals, such as planning for sustainable growth and addressing community needs.
Grand Traverse County Administration is compiling a summarized report of all eligible applications to send to a Workgroup comprised of commissioners, staff, and legal counsel, who will score the applications and ultimately determine award recipients at a date to be determined later this fall.
