Security


The entrance to the Robert P Griffin Hall of Justice is monitored by security personnel and equipment.

The following items may not be brought into the building:  guns, knives, razors, scissors, box cutters or any type of spray.  All packages may be inspected.  Dangerous or illegal objects shall be seized.

Arrive early for court proceedings to allow time for security measures.

The following items are prohibited in the courtrooms:

  • Weapons of any sort
  • Electronic equipment (unless approved by the Court)
  • Inappropriate attire such as t-shirts with swear words, depicting violence or sexual acts or promoting drug or alcohol use; muscle shirts; tank tops; halter tops; shorts; cut-off jeans; baggy pants that fall below the hips; micro-mini skirts; pants with holes; hats (except those worn for religious purposes)
  • Food, beverages, chewing gum, tobacco
  • Newspapers
  • Children making noise
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.  Security may remove offenders from the building and judges may hold violators in contempt of court.

Cell Phones and Pagers:

Cell phones and pagers must be turned off at entry to the courthouse.

Persons with pacemakers and medical devices:

For your safety, it is recommended that you not go through the metal detector or be hand-wanded unless you have doctor's approval.

Parking


Parking is limited, so arrive early.  There is a public parking lot on the east side of the building.  There is also parking along Washington Street.  The Park Place Hotel lots are not to be used for Court parking.

The parking lot to the west of the Robert P. Griffin Hall of Justice may occasionally be closed for church functions, as this lot is primarily owned by the church.

The parking lot at the Governmental Center, on Boardman Ave., is also available.

There is a parking deck located at 303 East State Street and one at 125 East Eighth Street.  Both are within a couple of blocks.
